City, State: Homosassa, FL Comments: Looking forward to the 2014 reunion. Have attended several in the past. I served in VR-24 Det, Naples from Jan 55 to Aug 59 and enjoyed my tour. Was an AE striker but ended up an YN2 and flew as a loadmaster on the R5D's and TBM's (WWII Torpedo Plane converted to carry cargo). We used to jump on the wings after they were extended to make sure that they were locked in place.

City, State: Mims, Fl Comments: On morning of Nov. 16, 1973 two C2A Greyhounds were sitting on the runway in Souda Bay, Crete, ready to takeoff. My good friend AMS3 Mike Murphy was riding as Load Master on the first aircraft #152787. The engines roared to life and was on it's way to one of the three carries that were in the Med. Two minutes later the second C-2 engines turn up and released it's brake, when the base's crash horns began to howl. All of us looked at each other and said "Hot brakes" on the second C-2. The C-2 then sped back to where we were. The pilot jumped out of the aircraft and said "787 Ditched" as he jumped into our Squadron's VW bus and head to the tower. He came back in a 30 minutes later and informed us the pilot, co-pilot and the aircraft Mech. made it out. Mike and six others died in the crash. So today, Memorial day 2014, I remember Mike and the six others that died in the service to their country on November 16, 1973.
