Hello - I'm terribly sorry to intrude on your guestbook, but I'm seeking information on a record album entitled 'Coffee House 1' that was recorded & produced on the Rota Naval Base in 1976. The information on the album jacket mentions that all proceeds from sale of this album were to go directly to the Last Straw Coffee House on base.

The back of the jacket describes in great detail the service members who composed & performed the songs on the album. They are as follows:

David L. Hausmann
Luis Giner
Rick Thompson
Linda Joye Thompson
Fred Potts
Jeff McCreary
Jim Goodwin
John Moore
Ken McKegan

I found a copy of this album in a local thrift store in San Diego, and have been unable to locate any additional copies. It's an excellent record with brilliant singing & songwriting. I am interested in learning more about its origins and would like to purchase any copies that anyone may have.

Thank you all for your time & service to our country.

Regards,
Christopher DeJohn

I am an Italian aerospace journalist. I become journalist over 40 years ago writing a story about VR-24. Since then, I was really lucky to fly , many times, with C-1 and C-2 visiting VIth Fleet carriers in the Med. Now..."Juliet Mike" is missing me very much!

Hi....I was stationed in Rota from 1966 to 1969. (ADJ2).  I flew many hours as a C-130, C-118 and C-2A Loadmaster. But C-130's were my favorite.  Enjoyed working hard as an aircrewman and partying hard too in places like Naples. Athens, Istanbul ( The crew was arrested for our own protection !! and there was no hot water in the hotel and the plane was down. We had to pool our money to buy a big loaf of bread and some feta cheese.) But it was wild and fun...
Also spent a lot of time in "downtown" Rota having fun...
I got to VR-24 just as the crew system was discontinued...And I was there when the C-2A's arrived. I got sent to San Diego to learn about them. Scarry !
Also remember a C-130 with one wing almost touching the pavement due to an inatentive refueling crew...It was a great time.
Anybody remember Bobby Boles, Cecil Mitchell, Billy Ryder and a few dozen others from that era ??

AT2 - I was station there in Sigonella from 1977~1979. When the squadron came back - RH-53 helicopters - was original part of the mine sweepers and then convert over to cargo. I remember Chief Holliday that was the softball coach of the base. I remember - i arrived the last day of softball try-outs on that dirt baseball field and made the team because i made a double, then went to third and my team was behind by 1 run with 1 out. A ground ball was hit to first and I started toward home and stop and the first baseman thought i was going home and throw back to third I dove back and was safe and the man was safe on first as well. The next batter hit a double we won that game. Also, Lt. Kinker was a helo pilot, and I had a chief (i need to check my pics) that drove a old dart green car was in great shape. I made the ALL NAVY EUROPE SOFTBALL TEAM and travel to Port Hueneme, CA. and we came in second place after losing our first 3 games in a round robin and we won ALL the rest. We did a supply run to Aviano AFB and we stayed a hotel downtown. Also, I played flag football in the league. Also, I was the baseball coach for the kids on-base and we won all the game except the very last one which I was away but I was there at the end of the game when we went to the main base for ice cream. So i like to hear from anyone during that time-frame. I will write back when I find my pictures. Also, i played basketball as well. Do you remember riding the old buses back and forth between the two parts of the bases and the drivers always try to make passes at the all sailor girls.
I will search my pics and see if they can be posted.

I was in VR from Feb,72-June 75 in Rota. I took my discharge in Rota and backpacked around Europe for 3 months before coming home. I played softball, soccer and flag football for VR and also raced motocross. I still look back at rota as one of the best times of my life. Vr-24 det had a reunion there in 2006 and we had a great time. We stayed at the playa de la luz. Rota has changed alot. I've been married for 33 years and a letter carrier for the post office for that long also. Would love to hear from some of the old gang. Vr-24 det has areunion every 3 years. The next one is in St. Louis in May 2012. Who's at the bar?? VR!!!!!

Lou Parrella, are you still out there? Also looking for a lady named Cassie Clapp. Seen you on Linkedin but failed to connect. The guy in the picture on the right. All I remember was we called him "Hippy" and his first name was Mark. Fell off of the roof at the Hotel outside of Hania Crete. We were thrown out of town. Long live the Souda Bay Seven.
