City, State: Clinton, Mississippi Comments: I just saw a picture of the last VR-24 patch on Facebook (I think). It's the patch with the eagle holding a bomb in its talons after flying off a ship. Does anyone know if it is possible to order one of these patches. I did e-mail to the person who posted the e-mail showing a picture of the patch, but my e-mail was returned. I was a yeoman at VR -24, Rota, from May 1970-September 1972. Thanks.

City, State: La Verne, CA Comments: Hi.....My Dad was the VR-24 Terminal Officer from 1954-56. Did anyone out there know him? He passed away in 1961 at the age of 51. I was in high school and in the first graduating class....Class of 1956. We lived in town for one year and on the base for one year. Would love to hear from anyone who know us. Pat La Fleur
City, State: Houston, TX Comments: In reference to Allen's post-let me be clear. I am very supportive of VR-24 association and their 36 year history of organizing annual reunions. I find meeting people from different bases and eras part of the joy of the reunions. For the last three years we have not had a reunion and I see nothing to indicate anyone is interested in accepting the role of organizer. While we wait for that to happen I thought some might like to get together in an informal unorganized reunion. We are still very hopefull that the tradition Started by Pete Owen will find some leadership and continue until all of us are gone.
City, State: Sequim, Wa Comments: Just came across this web site, Flew the C-1 from Capo from 61-63. C.O. was Cdr. Redding, my boss was Cdr. Van Winkle. Just wanted to add my name to a great web site, thank for the photos from the 62 CODS. Max
Comments: This is concern to every one that ever served in VR-24, no matter how or when. Ken Balderson ( Naples Det 60s ) seems to think the VR-24 Assoccation may be near the end of it's run. That will indeed be one sad time. An end of comradery and close contact with old shipmates that served with the cream of the crop. To stave off this demise, Ken is suggesting a small informal Naples 1960s reunion. ( You can find his email in these archives to offer your response ) We really need a total reunion. As it is right now, Rota and Sigonella are still getting together. Is it because those of us that served in Herndon, Port Luatey and Naples are getting too old ? Pete Owen (God rest his crotchity old soul ) had a big part in organizing and runnining the "Association" . Is ther no one capable of picking up the reins and carrying on one fine tradition? Another thought, at present the only thing keeping the Association going is Dick Prather and his superb work with the VR-24 web site. The time will come when even he will need help to carry on, or else the total colapse will indeed occur. Now I know there is at least one computer whiz out there that can step into the breech and offer his or her expertise. Dick Prather - We can not thank you enough for your hard work. I remember when the web site was only a few bland words and was actually boring. You took on the job and coverted a hole in the internet to the interesting and comprehdensive web site we like to call our own. This sort of make you the keeper of the Association - Bravo Serria!! My plea - Don't let the Association die! I still hope someone will grab the bull by the horns and get our reunions up and running once more. Nuff said.

City, State: Clinton, Mississppi Comments: I was a yeoman stationed at VR-24 in Rota from May 1970-September 1972. I have been in touch with a couple of old shipmates, Pat Hardage (living in Texas) and Carlos Rodriguez (still living in Rota, Spain). I believe that CDR Angier took over squadron command from Captain Bascom while I was there. Some of the other officers I remember were CDR Barfield, LCDR Pancratz, LCDR Curtis, and LT Fraker. I would be glad to hear from anyone who remembers me. Thanks.
