I was stationed at VR-24 from 91 to 92.  I was in the line shop as a AN3 plane captain.  I remember the parties and the work we did at the squadron.  It was fun to have the opportunity to live in a foreign country.  When the VR-24 was in the process of decommissioning, I transferred to the VF-103 Fighting Sluggers in Oceania Virginia.  This was my last duty station before I left active duty on 7/8/1994.  I went to college and graduated in 1999.  Now, I work as a programmer/analyst in the civilian world and married with 2 daughters.  I am looking to hear from anyone that was with VR-24 around 91 or 92.

Served in VR24 Port Lyautey and Hendon, London, from 1948 into 1950 when I returned to the States.  Was part of the Berlin Airlift.   My rank was AMM 1st Class and I was always flying and repairing "my" plane.  My radio operators name was Brown and my pilots name was Lt. Lewis J. Pappas.  We had a great time and I'll always remember.  Previously I had been in Port Lyautey as a turret gunner during  WWII.  I'm 82 years old now and have many health problems that the VA here in West Palm Beach takes care of.  If my health allows, I'd like to attend the Pensacola Reunion.

Great site: I did three tours with VR-24 and wish I could do it again. Some of the best times I can remember. I was in
Rota Sept 69 to Jul 71
Naples Jul 71 to Jul 74
Sigonella Feb 82 to Mar 85
I see several entries from Bill Noland, Dave Rotor, Steve Zeiba, Richard Whitfield who were running buddies.

Last year Bill Noland came to visit Vicki and I, and the year before we took a cruise to the Caribbean and had a ball. If your on this site then you have seen that VR-24 is having a reunion this year. Would love to see some of the old gang again.

Take care, Steve and Vicki

I reported to VR-24 at Naples in July 1971 as an AEC and departed in July 1974 as an AECS. I never worked so hard during my 30 year career as I did during those three years. The squadron was always undermanned and over taxed but some how got the job done. I remember the aircraft losses during the period but not in the same manner as indicated on this web site. The most enjoyable times were the detachments. The most memorable being a C1A engine change at Tunis, Tunisia. I was at Soudha Bay, Crete, when the C-2A crashed into the sea. A crew of 22 men including an AK and an AZ maintained all of the squadron C-2s on that detachment for more than three weeks.

Greetings, I was based at Rota (VR-24) from Dec. 68 thru April 71. I don't see many postings from that time period, although I have made contact with a few friends. During my tour of duty I was assigned to the airframes shop as AMS, Also as a C-130 Load master  for most of 1969 and the first half of 1970. Worked with a lot of great folks on C2-A,C-130 and C-118. I saw many great cities of Europe and had many life changing experiences while there. Bought a motorcycle in 1970 and added another dimension to the VR-24 experience by having the freedom to tour the region of Andalucia.  Went back in 93 and again last Sept; couldn't believe the changes. I would be interested to hear from anyone during that period.

Hi Dick! Been a couple of years since I posted. In the meantime I have heard from several friends and acquaintences from my time at Port Lyautey (1958-1961) as a teen-age dependent. I'm glad to see this page still active and look forward to hearing from others I may have know during that wonderful time!
Best Regards,
Mike
