City, State: Tiger, GA Comments: Hi everyone. RM3 Ty Alexander, served as Assistant Squadron Duty Officer (ASDO) 1970-73. First at Rota and moved with the squadron to Naples with the relocation of command. Served briefly under Commander Bascom, then Commander Hartung. Good memories.
City, State: Daphne, Alabama Comments: In 1985 the VR-24 reunion was held in Pensacola. I lived in Florida then, and it was great seeing old shipmates from Port Lyautey and the Naples detachment. The Ready Room was at the Pensacola Hilton, and all other events conducted at the base (Golf, Banquet and trips to the Aviation Meuseum. Along with the beach and great resturants, it was a great location. I now live abour 50 miles from Pensacola, and am curious if there are enough shipmates from all periods of Squadron history, who might want to meet and plan a reunion such as I described from 1985? send me an e-mail and let me know. Darrell Brock CPO/Ret. (1954-57).
City, State: Mount Pleasant, WI Comments: It is interesting that so many others look at their time in VR24 the same way that I do. I was an AMS in Rota from late 1970 until we moved the C2s to Naples where I worked as a plane captain and then as an AMS3 in the airframes shop. I bought Doggy Dawsons old VW Dutch Army bus when he left, I loved that thing. What a great experience that was for a 17 year old. I really enjoyed working with all the great people and working hard to keep the planes running. Hanging out with George Cope, Bob Lakey, Mike Fineis, Spanky, Mike Juda, Bill&Gina, Larry Sellers, and so many others. Frankly I'm amazed we survived those long nights hard partying downtown and wandering around up in the alleys. I'll never forget the great times we had.
