City, State: Okinawa, Japan (for now) Comments: Just visiting again after quite some time. Was YNSN/YN3 from 90 - decommission. Still active! Hope Gnarly's helmet reunited with him. Can't remember Stinson's (Stinnie) first name but he and Nevins were good friends and both had plans to fly commercial after VR-24. Was stationed in Rota from 16-20, wish I had contacted the person there writing the story. Snagged the squadron flag from CO's office during decommissioning and actually gave it to an old VR24 retired CO in Chesapeake VA when I was a student before commissioning around 2005~2006; would love to touch bases with that guy if he's around! I still have some squadron stickers and a few of the metal tags we glued on Zippos to sell during 4th of July! What memories.

City, State: Edmond, OK Comments: In Sig 1977 to 1980 in VR-24, AT2. Looks A LOT different now. Apparently VR-24 has moved or was decomissioned? I miss those days!
City, State: Columbus, OH Comments: On 3/20/54, when I was 5 years old, I flew from Patuxent, Md. with my mother and sister to Port Lyautey (with a stop in the Azores), to join my father, a navy pilot. Dick Prather has advised that I probably flew over on an R7V transport plane and this may well be the case (although the R7V is a slightly larger plane than I remember). If anyone has any info on this I'd love to hear from you. Also, I'd love to know how large the base was in 1954. I've read estimates for total military, dependent and civilian personnel ranging from 4,000 to 10,000 (although I'm guessing the larger estimate may include all such personnel at Sidi Slimane).
Comments: My Dad was in VR-24 1966-69 timeframe. LCDR. Capo. Lived on Posillipo. HS on Manzoni. I have a couple of wooden VR-24 plaques from then. Anyone in the Norfolk area interested in having them? Philip Henry
