City, State: Rota, Cadiz (spain) Comments: Hola, still in Rota doing the same. Drop me a line if you remember me. Perez.
Comments: I really want to thank the folks who have put this web site together, you've done a great job. I enjoy reading comments by my past shipmates and wish them all well. I don't generally make comments each time I view this site (least you'd have an overload), but like I said its good to listen to others thoughts and share past memories, and experiences. I hope that we don't allow these shared experience by so many to go into mothballs. The best way to prevent that is to keep in touch, reunions are great, unfortunately we aren't having one this year, as I understand, --but with the economy the way it is many of us, or our family members may be having a scary time on the financial front. We will make it through this, and hopefully some of us can get together and try to set something up in the next year or so. I'm sure we have a data base from this web site alone to make this a reality. Again I wish you all the best, we can weather any storm. We are VR.
City, State: Keller, Texas Comments: I was stationed at VR-24 from Oct of 1990 to Dec 0f 1992. I was a C-2A Loadmaster. VR-24 was my first command in the Navy. I am currently the C-130T Loadmaster Evaluator at CFLSW. I some of the best times in the Navy when I was at this command. I still stay in contact with guys I was stationed with at VR-24. I will retire from the Navy on May 29 2009. I am proud to say that I was a Lifting Eagle.
City, State: IRON RIVER,MI. Comments: LOOKING FOR A GUY WITH THE LAST NAME OF HOFFMAN NAPLES 1956 1957 AND ANY ONE ELSE THAT WAS THERE.
City, State: Wichita,Kansas Homepage URL: www.dandenayer.com Comments: VR-24 AMS2 1992-1993 Sig was my first assignment,it was a great experience and I was one of the last of 3 people left when VR-24 was decommissioned. I was sent to VAW-123 after that and it was a day and night difference on how people were treated between the 2 Squadrons. VR-24 was ran top notch and VAW-123 was ran in the dumps. So Kudo's to the men and woman involved in making my short year a good one.
City, State: Worton, MD Comments: What a bummer ! No plans for a reunion in 2009. As one, I realize the Port Lautey crew is well up in age and may be restricted in mobility. Pete Owen did one heluva job with the aid of Bill Waters but after 80, they deserve a rest. I am sure that sponsoring a reunion will take a lot of getting around. Then there is the Naples Det. Yeah, I was there too. Some of you ain't all that old yet. See a lot of Sigonela postings too and you are comparatively spring chickens. Won't someone step up and get the ball rolling. I'm fair with computer research and that would be my help, as minuscule as it is. It would be a shame to see the Association fall apart after so many years.

City, State: Ringgold, GA. Comments: Was in VR-24 Det. in Naples 69-71. Was an AT3 and C1-A air crew. Often went TAD to Sig, Athens, Souda Bay and many other places all over the Med. Have talked with my old room mate, Lynn Hyatt, Ken Collins, Steve Smith and George Hendricks. I remember well Chief Dan Dompe, Don Wright, Jeff Shaw and the crews killed in the two crashes just after I left Naples for Quonset Pt. Very special time in my life. Would love to hear from anyone who served in VR-24 at that time.
City, State: Knoxville, TN Comments: VR-24 Naples 71-74 Personnel Office I've wondered what happened to a lot of the people I served with in VR-24. Lynn Hyatt told me about this site. In reading through some of the emails it brought back a lot of memories. Would like to hear from fols from this time period of VR24
City, State: Valparaiso, IN Comments: Thanks for the website and the memories! My family was stationed in Rota, Spain from May 1964 thru July 1968. My dad was LCDR. Brewer Bell (and mom was Bert) and he flew mainly C-130s. I think it was the best time of our lives, lot of good friends that carried on through the years. Dad retired in 1971, bought a farm in western Arkansas, attended a number of VR-24 reunions and passed away in 1999. We often spoke late into the nights about our time there. Thanks again! |
