Hi shipmates:     Thanks Dick for managing and keeping this site going. Attended my 2nd and last America reunion in Baton Rouge and would have liked to have met Carlos to talk VR24.  It's hard to believe that 58 years ago I was in the Detachment in Naples. I was lucky enough to spend 13 months there and 13 months in Port Lyautey.  Would love to connect with old friends from either who served between 08/54 - 11/56. Was at the Aviation Museum in Pensacola recently.  They did have an R5D, but replaced it with an R6D.  Great place to visit - I spend hours there.

My apologies to Cal Staten and all others who may have seen the unrelated post from Germany. I receive email notification on all entries to the VR-24 Guestbook and try to check them for content including any links.

It is my policy to delete any that do not relate to VR-24 or relevant Navy or military operations, ones that contain obscene/profane or hateful speech, ones that espouse political or religious ideas or philosophy or, like the one just deleted, are commercial in nature.

I am not always on the ball, and invite email notes from any of you who find inappropriate Guestbook entries.

On a much happier note, I want to take this late opportunity to wish all of you a very nice Thanksgiving day.

Hello everyone,

Sorry to report that C-1A 136791 ("Wheel Chair 7"), was lost this past Monday 10/15/12, in Alaska, and it's only occupant was killed.  It was hauling a load of fuel to a mining operation.Wheelchair 7 in my opinion was the most historic of all the C-1As.
I have included a couple of links below about the accident and the plane.  Hope they work. If you can't just click on the second link,  type it in your search column and it will come up.  It is worth seeing.  Several pages about Wheelchair 7's history.
