I really enjoy looking over this site. Thanks Dick Prather and , belatedly, Pete Owens for creating it. I was very young when we moved to Kenitra in 1958, but the memory is still with me to this day. I hope you former members of "The Worlds Biggest Little Airline" make it to the reunion this year. Congrats on a job well done!  Look around, how many sqadrons have this kind of website .   Pete Davis

I was in air cargo at Port Lyautey starting in the fall of 1951 for about six months. Then was sent to Hendon and stayed there until discharge August 1955. Hendon was eventually changed to Fasron 76. I was a crew member on Adm. Wright and then Adm. Cassady's personal plane.
I would like to hear from anyone that might have been in the area around that time.

Would love to attend the reunion in Las Vegas in October.  My dad, LCDR Ernest J. La Fleur was terminal officer in Port Lyautey from 1954-1956.  I was in the first graduating class at the base school.  There were a total of three seniors and all three of us live in California.  If anyone remembers the La Fleur family, please send me an e-mail. I was a regular at the USO Center in town.  pjjones290@aol.com

This is a great site, I found it a week ago and reconnected with some old shipmates.  My wife and I both think that this was our best duty station Rota 67-70. I have since told Raymond Bartolomeo about this site.  I have been searching for Jerry Nelms and AME during that same time frame.  I am trying to round up some photos of that era to submit.  I would enjoy hearing from any of the guys that were over there at the time.  We had a get together around 85 with Raymond and Rudy Gallegos.  Good time.

All,

My wife and I ran an obstacle race last year called Warrior Dash and we are doing it again this year. We also decided to take it to the next level and run Tough Mudder in Wisconsin in September. As I looked over their other events this year, I noticed they had one scheduled for Vegas the same weekend we will have the reunion. I thought that this would be a great opportunity to create a VR-24/Navy team and run it together. VR, spouses, Navy, friends, hook ups, etc... are all welcome to join in.

http://toughmudder.com/events/las-vegas-2012/

Registration isn't open yet and I hope the date doesn't shift when it does open like it did for Wisconsin. Otherwise, this all for nothing. If it holds that date, this could be fun for everyone. For those that do not want to run, they can go as a spectator and party there with us after. They could also take pictures of us (or point and laugh hysterically) on some of the obstacles in all our ineptitude. If you pre-register now, you'll get an email with a $10 off coupon code when it does open up.

All veterans will receive a $15 discount. We all will be reimbursed money based on how many team members we get starting with at least 6.

Another option I like is that is that we could all raise money to donate to Wounded Warrior. ($25 back for each person that raises more than $150) We would also be required to donate in the name of our team or a person. My wife suggested we could donate in honor of Jack Punches. I like that idea.

This would make this reunion even more unforgettable than it is already destined to be. I know most everybody will want to party all weekend and that's fine. I'm just looking for something new and cool to do in between those nights. Don't feel obligated.

You don't have to be super fit or even be able to run 12 miles. However, coming off the couch isn't going to make you feel too good Saturday night.

If you are interested, message me your e-mail address for each participant and I will send you an invite to the team when I register. (You can always transfer to the team later too if you prefer).

I think that's it for now. Feel free to ask questions or offer up suggestions for a team name.

This invite is open to anyone. e-mail me or post to the VR-24 Facebook page.

Trying to correct some of the information I posted earlier.  I was in Naples, Italy from late 1957 and 1958 and left Naples in the spring of 1959.  I sent some photos in to post I do hope they work It's great to visit this web site, a lot of fond memories. I saw the photo's of Soudha Bay, When I frist arrived( flew in from Norfolk to the Azores, to Morroco, then to Naples ) my first assignment was TAD to Crete, we flew the TF-1 to support the 6th fleet, went aboard several times to the carrier FDR..After 3 months living in that quanset hut and sleeping on cots I was sure glad to get back to Naples.  I thank all who have contributed to this wonderful site.

The VR-24 Det Rota St. Louis, May 4, 5, & 6, 2012

I am thinking strongly of riding to St. Louis, MO from Enfield CT for the May 2012 reunion, then continuing on west for a ride to northern CA, Down the coast then back to D.C with Run for the Wall, (rftw.org).

Are there any VR folks who ride and are interested in riding either to or from St. Louis for the reunion or all the way back to DC. give me a call 860-836-0125
