Thank you Bill Wilemon for your apology.  I sent you a more detailed email of how my inexperience (as an event planner, lol) easily created this misunderstanding.
Also, I'd like to remind all about the reunion in Vegas this Oct...  I'm gonna attempt to post a link with this entry.   LOL...  Wish me luck!

http://www.montecarlo.com/

Soon I will post more info to make reservations after I sign the "contract" with the hotel.  I think we will have a link specifically for our reunion.  If ya have any questions feel free to shoot me an email.  I'll try to help ya out.

Don't forget to help spread the news about the reunion, please.
Thank you.

Dave Hall's post on Jan. 21 reminded me of an incident that happened in Naples while I was there:  I was assigned to the night shift Line Division at that time and we were waiting for the last flight of the day to come in from the ship.  It was one of the C-2s.
The tower gave us a "heads up" call and we all went outside to watch for it.  We heard it coming in and saw it's lights, then as soon as it touched down we heard---boom!, boom!---then we saw sparks, and the plane slid to a stop.  We took off out there and both main mounts were trashed and the wheels were flat on the bottoms.
What happened is that some of the pilots had a habit of hanging their helmet on the parking brake handle and putting on their headsets as soon as they cleared the ship.  The parking brake lever had to be pulled out to do that.  On this particular flight they missed it on the landing checklist!
All Naples air traffic had to be diverted to Rome until we could get the wing jacks out on the runway and change the main mounts, which took a couple of hours.
There was 22 Marines in the back with full field gear!
To Bruce Thompson, thank you for the invitation.  I will do my best to attend.  Have been trying to get up some interest for more than a year for a VR-24 reunion.

Regarding comments about the planned VR-24 reunion in Las Vegas in October:

"ALL FORMER MEMBERS OF VR-24 ARE INVITED TO ATTEND"!

No matter where you served with VR-24: Sigonella, Naples, Rota, Port Lyautey, wherever, you are ALL invited to attend.

The FaceBook website put together for the reunion has been asking for RSVPs to simply get a head count so the organizers can work out the details with the hotel.

I hope that clears it up for everyone.  Come on everyone, lets attend!

WE ARE VR!

P-L 54 and 55 Do you remember ??One R5D came back to PL from Naples and landing with its parking brakes on ?? I blew all four tires on the main gears and sat stranded on the runway.  The wheels did not turn even one revelation . The plane sat there until jacks and four new wheels were brought out. The pilot wrought up saying check for sabotage-- Sure--  One of the French P2Vs was turning up getting ready for take off when the landing gear collapsed and it sat down on the runway . We have more fun at our stay at PL  Dave

I would like to apologize to Tony Donham.  I know that he and others have been working hard to set up this reunion in October.

The reason that I made the statement about "it appears to be by invitation only" without asking any questions is because on the (We Are VR Reunion) Facebook page, I saw that :

54 People Going.
28 Maybe.
76 Invited.

Please accept my apology if I am wrong.  Didn't mean anything negative about it.  Just wishing that all VR-24 people could attend.

"Bill"

Just found this web site, glad I did and finding out about a possible reunion for VR-24. I was stationed at VR-24 Naples from 72-75 Hello to all that were there at that time, some great times.

I'd like to make correction to a previous comment below that was brought to my attention from others...
We are having a VR-24 reunion this October in Las vegas.  We have posted it on Facebook in an open forum for all to join.  It was MY negligence that overlooked this website.  My apologies.  As, we do currently have various generations of the VR-24 family attending.
Mr. Wilemon stated:  "it appears to be by invitation only" without asking any questions.
The information we have so, is as follows:
Oct 5th and 6th (the first weekend in Oct) 2012 at the Monte Carlo Hotel/Casino. We are currently working on group room prices.  When we have more information we will promptly share.  Thank you.

Well it seems that there is a VR-24 reunion planned for Oct. 5, 2012 in Las Vegas.  However, it was planned by a certain group of VR-24 who were in Sigonella together and it appears to be by invitation only.
I thought VR-24 was VR-24, no matter what time frame you served there?
