City, State: Charleston, WV Comments: I was a parachute rigger in VR-24 and the NAF Naples from 71-75. Still have a lot of memories from my days in Italy. Just wanted to say hi to anyone out there.
City, State: Virginia Beach, VA Comments: What’s up all, was in VR 1977 to 1979, Mech shop. Night shift sup. Nice to see all familiar names. (Rock) Have your brother Randy contact me, been too many years not to say hi.
City, State: Piedmont, Alabama Comments: Is anyone in contact with J.D. Long, who was a C-1 crewman in Naples? I was in touch with him about 2-3 years ago and now the email address he gave me is invalid, and the phone number I have rings, but nobody answers. If anyone can contact him, please let him know I'm looking for him. Thank you.
City, State: Worton, MD Comments: This entry for Darrell Brock Your posting of May 26 got my interest level way up there and I have contacted a few other members of the VR-24 Association about your reunion idea. How about keeping us up to date with your progress or even your lack of progress. This site is a good place to spread the word. So far I have received only positive response. Not many, but positive! City, State: Omaha, Nebraska Comments: Refernce to the new scrapbook page 37 (Port Lyautey): Squadron photo: I'm next to John McCarthy on his left side. I can't remember the occasion, but probably was an award of some kind. Can't remember to many of the old faces, and barely able to remember myself until I look at some of my old photos. What a sharp oufit we were - the crown jewel of any Navy unit at Lyautey
City, State: Green Valley, AZ Comments: I was stationed at Naples from July 60 To June 62 left as an AT2, This was probably the best duty in the Navy. I crewed as Radioman on the R5D's, and loved the travel I even enjoyed the detachments to Souda Bay.
City, State: St Louis Mo Comments: I just found out that yes there are 2 C-1 privatley owned and the owners are part of the Warbirds of America group, the C-1 I mentioned in my previous post that had crashed in 2002 is being rebuilt/restored and the owner hopes to have it flying again next year the other C-1(this plane was at VR24) is currently airworthy and flying the owner keeps it down in GA and takes it to airshows in the east when possible so far this year looks like the only air show he is going to is the Yipsilanti Michigan airshow in July. I am going to try to get to that show and get a closer look at this plane. I will update any info i get on both of these planes so far my research indicates these 2 are the only ones still flying. I did see some info that Brazil was planning buy 8 of the C-1 s but so far no indication that they were delivered or any other info
City, State: Ramona, CA Comments: Greetings All, I have just completed another upload to the VR-24 web site. The upload added eight new pages to the Scrapbook, and new photos of VR-24 aircraft, including C2As JM 22 and JM 24, a new photo of R4D-8 772, and new photos of R5D 39120 and 91999. To go direct to the additions from the Home Page, click on 'Whats New', then on the link to each page. Thanks again to all who have contributed photos. To those of you who have photos from your time in VR-24, I encourage you to share them on the web site. In April I visited the U.S. Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola where I obtained copies of Official Squadron Histories and other material submitted by VR-24 for several years in the 1980s. I plan to use them to update the web site History pages, a task that has been on my list for some time. I would like to acknowledge the many positive comments I have received about the web site. I enjoy editing and expanding it. The web site is a hobby which, much as I might prefer otherwise, has to be indulged in between other obligations. I appreciate your patience when waiting to see your photos posted. Thanks again for your continued interest and support for the VR-24 web site. Here's hoping we can restart the Association reunions beginning in 2012. Dick Prather, manager/editor |
