City, State: Hooks, TX Comments: I haven't posted in a while so I thought an update is needed. Rose and I have our daughter, Lisa, and her two girls, Lone and Rayne, living here in Hooks with us. It's crowded but enjoyable. We often talk about bella Napoli, sunny Sig and Rota. I don't think a sailor could have a more enjoyable tour of duty than with VR-24. I want to offer a huge "THANK YOU" to Dick Prather for keeping this the very best unit website on the net and to all my former shipmates for making VR-24 the best squadron there ever was.
City, State: Green Valley, AZ Comments: I was stationed at Naples from 60 to 62,coming in as a airman and leaving as a 2nd-class ATN, served as a radioman aboard the R5Ds(C-54). Looking to find other from Naples that were there during that period.
City, State: N Las Vegas, NV Comments: I was originally with AMD in Naples, 1975-1976, then transferred to Sig two months after VR moved and transferred to VR, AME/PR shop, after about six or so months went to Base Security. After leaving Sig in June of 1978 went to FASOTRAGRUPAC San Diego as a SERE instructor until retiring June 1981. It's been alot of years so I can't remember many names but I did enjoy the tour.
City, State: corpus christi, tx Comments: Never been to Las Vegas.
City, State: Albuquerque, New mexico Comments: I served in VR-24 Rota in 1965, 1966 and part of 1967. Started is a ADR and changed to ADJ, also was TAD to Hawaii in 1967 when we flew men and materials into Vietnam.
City, State: corpus christi, TX Comments: What is a World Famous Bradshaw Buckaroo? First let it be known that Bradshaw was the VR-24 call sign when we went to the ships(Aircraft Carriers). Hence Bradshaw Airlines. A Buckaroo is a super nice person that knows about real life. That leaves "World Famous"; when you leave your normal place of work(the Med) and go through the Suez Canal and go as far as the Indian Ocean, Singapore, and Perth, Australia, then you can say I am a World Famous Bradshaw Buckaroo. Life according to Chale Biggs QLB.
City, State: Everett wa Comments: VR family. Retired last year. Miss the teamwork and arincinni. . Never found it again in the next 17 years in. I miss you all.
City, State: Rota, Spain Comments: Does anyone know of any contact information for survivors of the flight that crashed in March 1960 in Spain? There were no fatalities, but I am trying to find passengers that are still around after 50 years. This year from 2-7 Sept 2010, there will be a ceremony in that small town in Spain, Jerez del Marquesado commemorating the event. The spanish community played a huge role in the rescue and first aid for our service members. I'm trying to contact any living members of that flight. Please contact me via email if anyone has any information.
