City, State: Asheville, NC Comments: Wow...Found myself reflecting on past times and thought "why not google VR-24". Never thought something like this website would come up. I was a plane captain on C-2's from 88-90. I miss the adventure, comraderie, partying in unexplored locales (Palma and Rhoda Spain, whooowhoooo!!! (or should I write ooraahhh!), great food, awesome cycling, and, of course, relatively innocent and vigorous youth. However, I don't miss "being government property", hydraulic fluid, or sucking in jet/prop exhaust!!! Would have retired two years ago...hard to imagine! I have 12 more years as a biology professor to go till free days to play and [literally] sail away with pay. Some of my proudest reflections in life are from my time with my fellow sailors, accomplishing our mission; getting that cargo where it needs to be!
City, State: Upper Marlboro, MD Comments: I served in VR-24 from '65 though '68 in the AE shop. I ran the shop on the midnight shift. I loved the experience while I was in VR-24. I loved my job and the people I came in contact with. I lived off base and I had an Austin Healey that I bought in Gibraltar before Franco closed the Border, one of the last cars that came out, I believe.
