Served in Rota and Naples from 68-72. I was Parachute Rigger and remember the bike trips all over southern Spain along with the road trip from Rota to Naples. I am planning a golf trip back to southern Spain and will take time to go back to Rota and go to the Tokyo bar 1 more time.    Would enjoy hearing from any of the crew.      Ron

Hey all, I was in VR-24 from Oct 1990 til its decom, then I went to NASSIG base operations. I was an AD/ C-2 Aircrewman (PC) and was also a T-39 aircrewman. VR24 was my first squadron duty and it was the absolutley best time ever. Great squadron, great bunch of people. We had some crazy times, back in Sig and especially on those Dets!
I got out of the Nav in 96, got my A&P licence and am currently back in Sig as a US conractor on the two Metro 23's (C-26) the base flies.
The base has changed for the better, EOD has taken over the old Lifting Eagles hangar, just isn't the same!
Would love to get in touch with some old VR friends, contact me!

I have been searching for the VR-24 squadron for quite some time.  As an 18 year old kid, I joined the US Navy.  Some of the proudest days of my life. After boot camp in Miramar, I was assigned to the US Oriskany.  I took a contract commercial flight to the Philippines, from the Philippines to DaNang and spent the next four nights on my seabag. I flew in a mail COD from DaNang to the Oriskany (in mid-cruise) in the early summer of 1968.  As we approached the Carrier, all I kept thinking was "that sure is a small place to land a plane" and "are we going swimming"!  I can't remember the pilot but he was with the VR-24 squadron.  I am hoping that one of you will remember him as it is important for me to prove that I "set foot" in Vietnam. (the VA is denying my disability claim).  Any of you guys that can testify that this was normal practice (i.e., to carry personal from DaNang out to Carriers) would also be appreciated.  - Thanks guys.

Hellloooooooo everyone!  I was in VR-24 from 91 until the end.  Then did some time in Security before moving to HC-4.  After that, I headed to LN school which landed me in Everett, WA.  I left the Navy in 98 and now live in Wisconsin.  Yes, it is cold in the Winter.

Wanted to see how everyone is doing.  If you remember me, feel free to shoot me an e-mail.

VR-24 Inflight Communicator from 1966 - 1968.  I'm looking for an email address for Pepe Perez still living in Rota.

Any other Rota Rooters from that era drop me a line.

chale biggs here; c2.a pc 79-82.

Got back from Italy last week.

Sigonella changed alot; no c2s, c1s, t39 ect.  no reconizable buildings from the early 80s. Catania changed for the better, Motta is better and a bit cleaner,  Tauromina is beautifully lined with nice shops, people, and food.  The pizza is still great.
